Last year's primary scholarship examinations, which were “suspended” due to legal complications, will now be held starting Apr 15. The examination will be held in 61 districts that day.
In the three hill districts of Bandarban, Khagrachhari and Rangamati, the examinations will begin on Apr 17.
The Directorate of Primary Education released the schedule for the examination on Wednesday.
On Wednesday, Apr 15, the Bengali examination will be held in 61 districts from 10am to 12:30pm. Then, the English exam will be held on Thursday, Apr 16, the Primary Mathematics exam on Friday, Apr 17, and Bangladesh and Global Studies and Primary Science will be held on Saturday, Apr 18. Each examination will start at 10am and last for two and a half hours until 12:30pm.
The hill districts will begin with the Primary Mathematics examination on Friday, Apr 17. The Bangladesh and Global Studies and Primary Science examinations will be held on Saturday, Apr 18. The Bengali examination is scheduled for Sunday, Apr 19, and the English examination on Monday, Apr 20.
The Directorate of Primary Education said that an additional 30 minutes of the scheduled time will be allocated for candidates with special needs.
The exam schedule has been set as per the decision of the National Steering Committee of the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education on Mar 5.
After assuming office on Feb 25, at a press conference organised at the Secretariat on the occasion of the publication of the results of the Junior, Dakhil and Ebtedayee Scholarship Exams, Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon announced that last year's Primary Scholarship Exam, which were “suspended” due to legal complications, would be held in April.
He said that kindergarten students will also get the opportunity to take part in the scholarship exam. Government primary school students will get 80 percent of the total scholarships, and students of private schools, including kindergartens, will get 20 percent.
According to the minister, until last year, the primary scholarship exam was designated only for students of government primary schools.
As private or kindergarten students were not included, the matter went to court.
In light of court directives and the constitutional principle of equal rights, the government has reviewed its decision by including kindergartens and private schools in the scholarship competition.
Under the scheme, the “talent pool” scholarship will provide a one-time payment of Tk 225 and a monthly stipend of Tk 300 to eligible students.

The minister said a total of 82,500 students will be selected for primary scholarships.
Of them, 33,000 will receive talent pool scholarships and 49,500 general scholarships.
Of the general scholarships, 41,250 students will be selected from government schools on a union and ward basis, while the remaining 8,250 students will be selected from private schools on an Upazila basis.
“Five scholarships will be allocated per Union and Ward, two for boys and three for girls, with the remaining one awarded on merit. This is our current plan,” the minister said.
