The results of the junior scholarship exams are set to be published “within this week”.
This year, 46,200 students will be selected for scholarships. Of them, 14,700 will receive talent pool or merit scholarships, while 31,500 will get general scholarships.
Prof SM Kamal Uddin Haider, controller of examinations at the Dhaka Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board and convener of the Inter-Education Board Examination Controllers Committee, said there is a “possibility” for the results to be published on Wednesday.
The Junior Scholarship Examination began on Dec 28 and ended on Jan 5. A total of 315,160 students who passed Class VIII in 2025 took part in the exam. The Dhaka Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board is processing the results.
“The scholarship results are expected to be published this week. We have already received the order for scholarship quota distribution. Subject to approval from the ministry, the gazette containing the list of selected students will be published soon,” Prof Kamal told bdnews24.com.
The Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education issued an order allocating quotas for the junior scholarship, announcing scholarships for 46,200 students.
Kamrun Nahar, assistant director of the Planning and Development Wing of the directorate, told bdnews24.com that 14,200 students will receive merit scholarships and 31,500 general scholarships.
“Merit scholarship recipients will receive a one-time annual grant of Tk 560 and a monthly stipend of Tk 450. General scholarship recipients will get Tk 350 annually and Tk 300 monthly. They will receive these benefits for two years. The Education Ministry has agreed to publish the results or the gazette with the list of scholarship recipients on Wednesday.”
According to the quota distribution, 3,635 students under the Dhaka Board will receive merit scholarships and 7,790 general scholarships. Under the Mymensingh Board, 967 students will receive merit scholarships and 2,073 general scholarships. Under the Rajshahi Board, 1,926 will get merit scholarships and 4,128 general scholarships, while under the Cumilla Board, 1,677 will receive merit scholarships and 3,593 general scholarships.
Under the Sylhet Board, 948 students will receive merit scholarships and 2,030 general scholarships, and under the Barishal Board, 873 will receive merit scholarships and 1,871 general scholarships.
Meanwhile, under the Jashore Board, 1,662 students will get merit scholarships and 3,561 general scholarships. Under the Chattogram Board, 1,210 students will receive merit scholarships and 2,593 general scholarships, while under the Dinajpur Board, 1,802 will receive merit scholarships and 3,861 general scholarships.
The scholarship exam was based on Class VIII textbooks and covered Bengali, English, mathematics, science, and Bangladesh and Global Studies. Separate exams were held for Bangla, English, and mathematics, while science and Bangladesh and Global Studies were tested together. The total marks were 400—100 each for Bengali, English, and mathematics, and 50 each for science and Bangladesh and Global Studies. Each exam was held for three hours.
The Bengali exam was held on Dec 28, English on Dec 29, mathematics on Dec 30, and science along with Bangladesh and Global Studies on Jan 5.
