The National Board of Revenue (NBR) will provide an online income tax return service on Friday and Saturday to assist candidates contesting the upcoming 13th general election.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the revenue authority said it had set up a special helpdesk to facilitate online return filing by election candidates.

The helpdesk will operate from 2:00pm to 5:00pm on Friday at the E-Tax Management Unit, located on the seventh floor of the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) building in Ramna, Dhaka. It will remain open from 9:00am to 5:00pm on Saturday at the same venue.

Separately, Bangladesh Bank said it would keep scheduled banks across the country open on Saturday, following a request from the Election Commission.

In a statement, the central bank said bank branches would remain open on 27 December to allow candidates to deposit funds through bank drafts, pay orders or treasury forms. The deposits are required for purchasing voter list CDs and submitting security bonds.

According to the election schedule, the deadline for submitting nomination papers is 29 December. The days leading up to the deadline include a public holiday for Christmas on 25 December, followed by weekend holidays on 26 and 27 December.
