Headline inflation drops to 8.32%, lowest in eight months

Inflation has eased sharply in July as prices of food and non-food items softened, dropping to its lowest level in eight months.

Point-to-point inflation stood at 8.32 percent in the first month of the 2026-27 fiscal year, Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) data released on Tuesday showed.

Inflation was 8.29 percent in November last year and 8.49 percent in December. It stood at 9.16 percent in June, the final month of the 2025-26 fiscal year, after reaching 8.55 percent in July last year.

The 8.32 percent rate means a product or service that cost Tk 100 in July last year required Tk 108.32 to buy this July.

Food inflation fell to 7.16 percent in July from 8.60 percent in June, while non-food inflation eased to 9.28 percent from 9.61 percent.

The government has set a target of keeping average inflation at 7.5 percent during the 2026-27 fiscal year, which began on Jul 1.
