The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has approved eight projects costing a total of Tk 22.66 billion.

The government will provide Tk 22.29 billion itself, while organisational funding will provide the remaining Tk 372.8 million.

The approvals were granted at the ECNEC meeting at the Secretariat on Tuesday, which was presided over by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, the Ministry of Planning said.

Of the eight approved projects, three are new, three are revised, and two have had their deadlines extended.

The projects approved in the meeting are:

• The “Barishal Irrigation Project Maintenance and Rehabilitation (Phase 1)” Project under the Ministry of Water Resources

• The “Anowara-Banshkhali-Taitong-Pekua-Badarkhali-Chakaria (Eidmoni) (R-170) Regional Highway (Kalabibir Dighi to Eidmoni) Upgrading to Proper Standard and Width Project” under the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges

• The “Circuit House and Deputy Commissioner’s Office in 33 Districts of Bangladesh, Thakurgaon Lift Addition Project” under the Ministry of Public Administration

• The “Bangladesh Children’s Hospital and Institute Expansion Project-2” under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare

• The “Dhaka Construction of Cancer Center at CMH (Phase 2) (1st Amendment) Project”

• “Madrasa Education Management and Information System (MEMIS) Support (3rd Amendment)”

• “Establishment of Multimedia Classrooms in 653 Madrasas of the Country (3rd Amendment) Project” under the Ministry of Education

• The “Power Enhancement of Existing Grid Substations and Transmission Lines (1st Amendment) Project” under the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources

The meeting attendees were also informed about six projects with a cost of less than Tk 500 million already approved by Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury.

These are the “Water Supply and Sanitation Project in 30 Municipalities of Bangladesh (2nd Amendment)” Project, the "Waste Removal and Management in the areas under Dhaka South City Corporation and Collection of Modern Vehicles and Equipment Used for Road Repair and Traffic Congestion Reduction Through Establishment of Mechanised Parking (2nd revised)” project, the "Expansion and Accessibility of Existing Postal Services at the Citizen End" project, the “Expansion of Infrastructure Facilities of Dhaka Cantonment MES Training Cell” project, the Accelerating Action to End Child Marriage in Bangladesh (Phase-II) project, and Establishment of Paikgachha Agricultural College, Khulna (2nd Revised)” project.
