In the evening that day, Shakib had appeared at a disciplinary hearing where he admitted the offence and accepted responsibility for the act.

Later that night, the all-rounder apologised to his fans, fellows, BCB and every Bangladeshi on Facebook.

“I am extremely sorry for my behaviour during yesterday’s (Thursday) match. I was extremely frustrated with getting out so abruptly and my emotions got the better of me.”

Shakib admitted that, since many admire him as ‘role model’, his reaction was very regrettable. He also assured that this will never happen again.

He will be unable to take part in the Tigers’ third ODI against Sri Lanka and will also miss out on the first two matches of the Asia Cup due to his ban.

In the match which Bangladesh lost by 61 runs leading to the series loss, he threw his wicket away trying to hammer one over the ropes.

The camera caught him making a gesture in the dressing room after watching the live telecast of the replay of his dismissal.

The camera panned away almost instantly but the incident spread on the social media triggering a wave of criticism.

BCB Acting Chief Executive Officer Nizam Uddin Chowdhury said, “Shakib was repentant for the incident and readily accepted that the behaviour was unbecoming of a player of his experience and stature. We also reminded him that his action was unacceptable.”
