The Cricketers’ Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB) President Mohammad Mithun has explained that multiple reasons forced the players’ decisive action.
In a press conference on Thursday, Mithun, CWAB Vice-President Nurul Hasan Sohan, Executive Committee member Shamsur Rahman Shuvo, and the three national captains -- Najmul Hossain Shanto, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, and Litton Kumer Das -- detailed the issues.
Speaking at a Dhaka hotel, Mithun said years of neglect had accumulated into widespread frustration.
“After repeated controversial remarks by BCB Director M Najmul Islam, the grievances boiled over. You may think it’s about one issue, but for months we’ve sought solutions behind closed doors and in public, yet received none.
“There is a limit to patience. When that limit is crossed, action becomes unavoidable. Today, we acted out of helplessness and compulsion,” he said.
Sohan highlighted the paralysed state of Dhaka league cricket, calling for proper management of first, second, and third divisions to ensure the game is played effectively across all levels.
Miraz clarified misconceptions about players’ earnings, explaining that most revenue comes from the ICC and sponsorships, not public funds.
He criticised Najmul’s remarks as inappropriate, saying such comments were unacceptable for someone in a position of responsibility.
CWAB also expressed concerns over unresolved issues in women’s cricket, including harassment complaints and poor training facilities, with Shanto and Litton raising the lack of support for female players.
Shuvo criticised the exclusion of nine players from the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) amid unverified fixing allegations, stressing the need for transparency and proof.
Mithun accused Najmul of publicly humiliating the entire cricketing community.
“Our respected board director has questioned the integrity of cricketers and the cricketing nation itself. This is deeply regrettable and undermines the honour of players and everyone associated with cricket,” he said.
