Bangladesh’s ODI squad has been reshuffled ahead of the three-match series against West Indies, starting Saturday at Mirpur’s Sher-e-Bangla Stadium.

Mohammad Naim Sheikh and Nahid Rana have been dropped, making way for two batsmen: first-time call-up Mahidul Islam Ankon with Soumya Sarkar returning to the fold.

Soumya, 32, has had a career full of comebacks. Over nearly 11 years, he has played 76 ODIs. His last appearance was in February against India in the Champions Trophy, where he was dismissed for a duck.

In December on the West Indies tour, he had scored 73. He had also been named in the T20 squad against Afghanistan but missed out due to visa issues.

Mahidul, 26, a wicketkeeper-batsman, is being drafted to strengthen Bangladesh’s middle order. He has played one Test -- against South Africa last October in Chattogram -- and 96 List ‘A’ matches, scoring nearly 3,500 runs at an average of 44.53, including four centuries and 28 fifties.

In May, he played for Bangladesh ‘A’ against New Zealand ‘A’, scoring 105 and an unbeaten 42, and in the Dhaka Premier League, he made 431 runs at an average close to 48 for Mohammedan Sporting Club.

Naim had earlier shone for Prime Bank in the same league, scoring 618 runs in 11 innings at 61.80 with 27 sixes. But in three T20s post-comeback, he managed 32*, 3, and 10, and in his ODI return against Afghanistan, he scored seven off 24 balls.

Nahid also returned against Afghanistan, bowling at over 150kph, but was ineffective and left the field due to discomfort. He has now been dropped from the ODI squad.

Bangladesh will enter the West Indies series with four pacers and three spinners, led by captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz.

Bangladesh ODI Squad: Mehidy Hasan Miraz (captain), Tanzid Hasan, Soumya Sarkar, Saif Hassan, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Towhid Hridoy, Jaker Ali, Shamim Hossain, Nurul Hasan, Rishad Hossain, Tanvir Islam, Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Tanzim Hasan, Hasan Mahmud, Mahidul Islam Ankon.
