Bangladesh have appointed Litton Kumer Das as their new ODI captain, ending Mehidy Hasan Miraz's stint in charge.
BCB President Tamim Iqbal announced the decision at a press conference on Wednesday after a meeting of the board of directors, saying the move was driven by the vision of having one captain for both ODIs and T20Is.
The leadership change comes despite Bangladesh having no ODI fixtures scheduled in the immediate future.
Changes have also been made to Bangladesh's vice-captaincy.
Najmul Hossain Shanto, who served as Mehidy Hasan Miraz's deputy in ODIs, has been replaced by Towhid Hridoy.
Hridoy is now vice-captain in both white-ball formats.
The red-ball leadership remains unchanged. Shanto continues as Test captain with Miraz as his deputy.
The reshuffle marks another twist in Bangladesh's recent leadership changes.
In June last year, the then BCB led by Aminul Islam unexpectedly removed Shanto as ODI captain and handed the role to Miraz, a move that drew widespread criticism.
Frustrated by the process, Shanto also relinquished the Test captaincy before being persuaded to reverse his decision.
Miraz stayed on as ODI captain, and his tenure was extended until the next World Cup before his initial one-year term had even expired.
That chapter has now come to an end.
Litton has been handed the ODI captaincy until the World Cup. He has previously led Bangladesh in seven ODIs as stand-in skipper.
Bangladesh recently lost an ODI series in Zimbabwe under Miraz after winning four successive home series. But BCB chief Tamim insisted the results had nothing to do with the change.
"We have three captains across the three formats. But I believe Bangladesh should have two -- one for white-ball cricket and one for red-ball cricket.
"It's important to say Miraz has been a very successful captain. He won four of his last five series.
"But Bangladesh need the best version of Miraz as a performer. We haven't seen him at the level we're used to recently, particularly with the bat. He's still bowling well. If he rediscovers his old rhythm, Bangladesh will benefit."
Tamim said the decision was reached only after detailed discussions with Miraz.
"He fully understood it. We followed the proper process, spoke openly and reached a mutual understanding.
"I have the utmost respect for Miraz. He may lead Bangladesh again in the future. We appreciate everything he gave as captain. He always gave his best, and he has only our respect and admiration."
