Former Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Aminul Islam Bulbul has asserted himself as the board’s “only legitimate leader”, denouncing the National Sports Council (NSC) report as flawed, reckless, and legally invalid.
He calls the dissolution of the elected board and the formation of an ad-hoc committee under Tamim Iqbal “a constitutional coup”.
In a media statement on Tuesday night, Bulbul rejected the “so-called investigation report” and categorically denied any irregularities in the Oct 6, 2025 BCB election.
He said, “I am unequivocally the duly elected BCB president. The NSC report submitted on Apr 5, 2026, is flawed, reckless, and legally unacceptable, with no basis in law or the BCB Constitution.”
Bulbul insisted the election was conducted strictly according to BCB regulations.
All 15 club objections, including those regarding Tamim Iqbal’s councillor position, were addressed through semi-judicial hearings on Sept 24–25, 2025.
He dismissed claims of “election fixing” as politically motivated stories designed to destabilise the board.
He condemned State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque’s role, saying: “The NSC has no authority to investigate a completed election of an autonomous federation. This inquiry was a politically vengeful act outside legal procedures and must be nullified.”
Bulbul also described the ad-hoc committee as illegal and in violation of ICC rules, urging the global governing body to intervene.
“The supposed dissolution of the elected board and installation of Tamim Iqbal’s ad-hoc committee is unconstitutional and exceeds NSC authority.
“ICC must immediately examine the matter and prevent this unlawful body from functioning.”
Warning of the wider consequences, he said: “This instability threatens Bangladesh cricket’s progress, delays new talent, and jeopardises our under-19 players’ futures. Government interference undermines cricket’s autonomy and national pride.”
Reiterating his legal authority, Bulbul said: “Until a different High Court ruling, Aminul Islam Bulbul remains the sole legitimate president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board.”
