Bangladesh Cricket Board’s search for Chandika Hathurusingha’s successor is ending with the appointment of Rhodes, says ESPNcricinfo.

BCB Chief Executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury said they have kept Rhodes on their short list following recommendations by Gary Kirsten, who was hired to help the BCB find the perfect candidate for the job.

The BCB expects the Englishman here in two to three days, Nazimuddin said.

Rhodes will make a presentation on his plan to coach the Tigers, just as Phil Simmons and former Bangladesh coach Richard Pybus have done.

Rhodes told the ESPNcricinfo that he was interested in “what I think is a really prestigious role”.

“But nothing is confirmed at this stage and nobody should jump the gun and presume it is," he added, according to the report.

Rhodes, who played 11 Tests and nine ODIs, is known for his talent-spotting skills, the report says.

The BCB CEO said they were interested in Rhodes for his experience.

“We are also considering that the next World Cup is going to be played in England. We may get some advantages if we involve someone from the English condition with the team,” he added.

He expressed hope that the new coach will be joining the Bangladesh set-up during the training camp for the West Indies tour later this month.
