Islami Chhatra Andolan Bangladesh has become the first organisation to announce a panel for the upcoming Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) elections.
The announcement was made on Thursday by the organisation’s central general secretary, Mahbubur Rahman Nahian.
Speaking at the press conference, Nahian said the former president of the organisation’s Dhaka University unit, Yasin Arafat, would contest for the post of vice president, while Khairul Ahsan Marzan would be competing for general secretary.
Their election pledges include:
• Installing electric fans or air-conditioning in women’s residential halls
• Digitalising the registrar’s office
• Providing residential accommodation to all students with improved facilities
• Setting up research-based scholarships and lab resources
• Setting up digital libraries and smart classrooms
• Upgrading online class and exam systems
• Introducing career guidance programmes
• Setting up mental health helplines
Nahian said their focus is on transparent student budgets, constructive student politics, and student welfare.
The DUCSU election is set to take place on Sept 9. A draft voter list has already been published, with the final list expected on Aug 11.
