The School of Law at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) has organised the “3rd IUB Undergraduate Law Students’ Research Conference”, bringing together students from 20 universities across Bangladesh.

The conference, held on May 7, featured presentations and panel discussions on contemporary legal issues, with students submitting 56 research papers from eight public and 12 private universities.

Of those, 40 papers were selected for presentation across 10 sessions, covering issues such as structural discrimination, cyber law, artificial intelligence, environmental challenges, constitutional reform, stray animal protection and digital rights.

Prof Borhan Uddin Khan, advisor to the School of Law, attended the opening session as chief guest.

Prof Muhammad Mahbubur Rahman, head of the Department of Law, delivered the welcome speech, and Dean of the School of Law Prof Mohammad Nazmuzzaman Bhuian also addressed the event.

The panel of evaluators included Prof Rumana Islam and Taslima Yasmin from Dhaka University, Prof Md Rizwanul Islam from North South University, Robayet Ferdous Syed from American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB), Nabaat Tasnima Mahbub from East West University, and Afroza Bilkis from the Bangladesh Competition Commission.

Faculty members from IUB who took part included Prof Md Abdul Awal Khan, Prof Assaduzzaman, Md Anisur Rahman, Hassan Al Imran, Liton Chandra Biswas, Md Monjur Hasan and Md Toriqul Islam.

The papers were assessed on analytical depth, organisation, presentation, use of visual aids, time management and responses during question-and-answer sessions.

All participants received certificates, while 10 students were recognised for outstanding papers.

The award recipients included Md Ashifuzzaman Anik from Dhaka University, Md Ibrahim Khalilullah from State University of Bangladesh, Nurshalin Islam Shifat from Bangladesh University of Business and Technology, Tanvir Ahmed Tusher from Noakhali Science and Technology University, Razwan Ahmed from University of Asia Pacific, Naima Sultana Anika from Dhaka University, Sushmita Protimo Ghosh Puja and Afrida Anwar from IUB, Sanjida Armin Meem from Gopalganj Science and Technology University and Md Shuvo Zaman Shanto from Eastern University.
