Public universities in Bangladesh must pitch their research plans, funding requirements based on sub-sectors and budget estimates to get research funds, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has said.
The university regulatory body announced the three conditions on Friday, a day after the registrars of all public universities were informed about the decision.
It comes amid media reports that the universities are not getting separate allocations for research from the UGC.
In the new fiscal year, the allocation for the research sector of all public universities in the country has been placed under the commission.
According to a media statement, the UGC has allocated Tk 2.26 billion to the research sector of all public universities in the fiscal year 2026-27.
The amount is about 13 percent higher than that allocated in the previous fiscal year.
“Therefore, the news reports claiming that no allocation has been made for the research sectors are not correct," it added.
