Uttara University has honoured those killed and injured during the July Uprising through a commemorative programme aimed at preserving the history, values and legacy of the 2024 movement.
The university organised Smaraney July '24 at its Multipurpose Hall on Monday, according to a media statement.
The event commemorated the sacrifices made during the Uprising and reaffirmed the university's commitment to preserving its history for future generations.
State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj joined through a recorded video message.
Referring to the university's role in the movement, he said: "Just as the students of Uttara University stood for democracy in the past and played a huge role in the July movement, you will likewise work toward democratic governance, a progressive Bangladesh and a people-centric nation in the days to come.”
The university's treasurer, registrar, controller of examinations, deans, faculty members, administrative officials and staff also attended the programme.
A commemorative souvenir book “Lekha Achhey Oshrujoley” was unveiled, after which selected recipients received commemorative crests and copies of the publication.
Speaking at the event, Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Eaysmin Ara Lekha said: "Only an educated person can present the truth before everyone.
“You must work to stand against injustice in order to uphold justice, and fulfil your duties and responsibilities toward your motherland with utmost sincerity.”
Prof Dr ASM Shahabuddin, director of the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), explained the methodology used to prepare the commemorative list.
Micro-documentaries featuring the experiences of Uttara University students during the July Uprising were screened before several students shared their reflections.
The observance ended with a special prayer led by Prof Dr Mirza Golam Rabbani, dean of the School of Science and Engineering, seeking eternal peace for those killed during the Uprising.
