The American International University - Bangladesh (AIUB) has organised the 10th qualifying round of the Philip C Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition 2026, with Eastern University emerging as champion.
The three-day Bangladesh qualifying round began on Thursday and concluded on Saturday.
Former chief justice Syed Refaat Ahmed inaugurated the event as the chief guest.
AIUB Vice Chancellor Prof Saiful Islam, Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Md Abdur Rahman and Supreme Court senior advocate Barrister Nihad Kabir attended as special guests.
High Court Division justices Md Akram Hossain Chowdhury and Zafar Ahmed, senior advocate Probir Neogi, and former AIUB vice chancellor and trustee Prof Carmen Zita Lamagna attended the closing ceremony.
In the national round, Dhaka University finished as runner-up, while the Best Oralist award went to Muntahar Ahmed Thakur.
The Philip C Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition is regarded as one of the world’s oldest and most prestigious moot court competitions for law students.
The Bangladesh qualifying round is currently recognised as the third-largest qualifying round globally and the second-largest in South Asia.
This year, 192 participants from 48 universities across the country took part in the competition.
The 2026 Bangladesh qualifying round was jointly organised under the patronage of AIUB, the International Law Students Association and Hearth Bangladesh.
