Prof ASM Abdul Haseeb, a professor at the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), has been appointed as the first vice-chancellor of the newly-formed Dhaka Central University, which is composed of seven government colleges in Dhaka.

The appointment was made in a notice from the Ministry of Education’s Secondary and Higher Education Department (SHED) on Sunday.

The notice was then announced by the SHED on Monday.

Haseeb was serving as BUET’s dean of faculty for postgraduate studies.

The ministry says the vice-chancellor’s term is four years, but the president and chancellor can cancel the appointment at any time if deemed necessary.

On Feb 8, the Bangladesh government issued an ordinance to form Dhaka Central University to oversee the higher education and research at these seven government colleges in the capital.

These institutions are Dhaka College, Eden Mohila College, Government Shaheed Suhrawardy College, Kabi Nazrul Government College, Begum Badrunnesa Government Girls’ College, Mirpur Government Bangla College and Government Titumir College.
