Daffodil International University (DIU) is set to organise AI Hackathon 2026, aiming to promote innovation and technology-driven problem-solving among young students.

The event is being organised in collaboration with the World AI Alliance (WAA) on Jul 11-12 at its permanent campus in Daffodil Smart City, read a media statement.

A press conference announcing the initiative was held on Apr 15 at the university campus in Birulia, Savar.

World AI Alliance President and CEO of ScaleBuild AI Ujjal Roy, DIU Board of Trustees Chairman Md Sabur Khan, Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof Mohammad Masum Iqbal, and Registrar Mohammad Nadir Bin Ali attended the event, according to the statement.

The 48-hour hackathon will bring together students from universities across Bangladesh to develop artificial intelligence-based solutions to real-life challenges.

Selected teams will work intensively over two days to design and present their projects, the statement added.

Organisers said the competition will be open to students from all universities in the country.

Each team must consist of three students and one mentor from either academia or industry.

Participants will be required to register online and submit a concept note. A panel of judges will shortlist teams for the final round based on the evaluation of proposals. The contest will be held across three separate tracks.

The total prize money for the competition is Tk 200,000, read the statement.

In addition to cash prizes, winning teams will receive opportunities for startup development through funding, mentorship, and incubation support facilitated by the World AI Alliance.

In the media statement, organisers said the initiative aims to build a stronger innovation ecosystem in Bangladesh and encourage students to develop practical AI-based solutions, while contributing to the broader goal of creating a digital Bangladesh.
