Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) has welcomed more than 1,100 new undergraduate students at its Autumn 2026 Orientation, marking the start of a new semester at the Bashundhara campus.
The event, organised by the Office of Admissions, Financial Aid and International Relations on Sept 9, was held at the IUB Auditorium and attended by parents, guardians, faculty, and senior university officials, the university said.
Vice-Chancellor Prof M Tamim, Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Daniel W Lund, and Registrar Asif Parvez addressed the inaugural session.
Director of Admissions Lima Choudhury delivered the welcome remarks.
Md Wasim Jabber, MCIPS, treasurer; Prof Bokhtiar Ahmed, dean of the School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences; Dr Hasan Sohel, associate professor and head of the Department of Life Sciences (representing the Dean of the School of Environment and Life Sciences); Dr Kamran ul Baset, dean of the School of Pharmacy and Public Health; Dr Habib Bin Muzaffar, dean of the School of Engineering, Technology and Sciences; Prof Imtiaz A Hussain of the Department of Global Studies and Governance were present at the event.
The session concluded with the recognition of merit scholars awarded scholarships ranging from 30 power to 100 power of tuition, based on admission test scores.
Vice Chancellor Tamim presented tokens of appreciation to the recipients.
Lima said the university's admission process was rigorous and merit-based, adding that 45 power of total applicants were selected for the Autumn 2026 intake.
A second session featured a video presentation on student clubs, academic support services, and extracurricular activities, followed by performances from the IUB Music Club and Dance Club.
