The School of Law at Southeast University has held a lecture on the challenges of international human rights law, with discussions on marginalised communities, inclusive development and the Sustainable Development Goals.
The university’s School of Law, in association with its Department of Law, held the third lecture in its Law Lecture Series at the Multipurpose Hall on Sept 2.
Themed “Intersectional Challenges of International Human Rights Law and Inclusive Development”, the lecture focused on contemporary human rights challenges, the rights of marginalised and vulnerable communities, and the link between human rights and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
DAH Monjurul Kabir, senior advisor and country representative at UN Women, spoke about the challenges facing marginalised communities and the need for a rights-based approach to development.
He said achieving the SDGs requires an inclusive approach that ensures equality, dignity, participation and access to justice.
ABM Nowroj Ehsan, advisor to the Board of Trustees, spoke about the importance of protecting human rights in Bangladesh.
Prof Yusuf Mahbubul Islam, vice-chancellor of Southeast University, presided over the programme.
