A four-day nationwide environmental festival aimed at fostering climate change awareness, conservation, and sustainability among school, college, and university students has concluded at BRAC University in Dhaka.
Titled "Green Genesis 2026", the event convened approximately 3,000 participants representing 100 educational institutions, 88 clubs, and nearly 50 regional platforms from across Bangladesh, the university said in a statement on Saturday.
The festival featured a wide range of activities, including writing and public speaking competitions, art, photography and videography contests, diorama creation, and workshops on research and communication.
Organisers said the initiatives were designed to encourage creativity, leadership, innovative thinking and practical approaches to addressing environmental challenges.
Participants received prizes, certificates and awards in recognition of their achievements and contributions, with organisers aiming to inspire greater environmental responsibility among young people.
The event was organised by the Centre for Climate Change and Environmental Research (C3ER) and the Outreach Team of BRAC University in collaboration with the platform Youth for a Green Earth.
Co-organisers included the BRAC University Leadership Development Forum, BRAC University Environment Club, BRAC University Community Service Club and BRAC University Natural Sciences Club.
The workshops were conducted by C3ER Director Golam Rabbani, Office of Communications Director Khairul Bashar, Prothom Alo Digital Content Lead Khairul Babui, C3ER Assistant Director Sharmin Nahar Nipa, and BRAC University alumnus Srijan Banik.
Rabbani also delivered a keynote presentation titled "Green Genesis Inspiration", focusing on climate change and environmental challenges.
In his closing remarks, Prof Emeritus Ainun Nishat, advisor to C3ER, underscored the vital role of young people in building a sustainable future for Bangladesh.
BRAC University Treasurer Ariful Islam, Registrar David Dowland, Head of Student Life Tahsina Rahman and Outreach Team Assistant Director Dipti Sarkar also addressed participants, encouraging them to contribute to environmental stewardship and sustainable development.
ACI Motors sponsored the festival, while Prothom Alo served as its digital partner, the statement said.
The initiative supported the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those on quality education, climate action and partnerships, it added.
