East West University (EWU) has launched its 'Foreign Language Center' to boost employability, global connectivity and language education.
The opening ceremony was held Thursday at the university's Manzur Elahi Auditorium.
Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh Saida Shinichi, chief guest at the event, called the centre a timely step to prepare students for the global stage, and thanked EWU for choosing Japanese as its first language course.
Prof Dr Mohammed Farashuddin, chairperson of the EWU Board of Trustees, chaired the programme.
He said the centre aligns with the prime minister's call for learning a third language and would help students become global graduates.
Hedayatul Islam, deputy secretary at the Prime Minister's Office, attended as special guest and reaffirmed government support for such initiatives.
EWU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Shams Rahman, in his welcome speech, described the centre as a hub for academic and cultural exchange.
Faculty, students, EWU Japan Alumni Association members, and government and embassy officials attended the ceremony.
