Dhaka Central University has issued its first admission notice for undergraduate students to enrol in Dhaka’s seven government colleges under its authority.

The announcement marks the first intake for the newly-formed university in the 2024-25 academic year.

Eligible students may apply online from 12pm on Aug 3 until 11:59pm on Aug 10, according to Prof AKM Elias, principal of Dhaka College and administrator of the interim unified administrative structure for the colleges.

“After the application deadline closes on the 10th of August, admission tests will take place on the 22nd and 23rd,” he told bdnews24.com on Tuesday, adding that the notice was published after approval from the education ministry.

Admissions will follow the existing academic structure.

Until now, these seven colleges were affiliated with Dhaka University, which had already started collecting applications under its admission process this year.

That procedure, however, was halted amid protests demanding disaffiliation.

The latest admission notice says applicants who had already applied under the previous Dhaka University affiliation do not need to reapply, as their applications will automatically transfer to the new university.

Students who withdraw their applications will receive a refund of the application fee.

The seven government colleges are Dhaka College, Eden Mohila College, Government Shaheed Suhrawardy College, Kabi Nazrul Government College, Begum Badrunnesa Government Girls’ College, Government Bangla College, and Government Titumir College.

Amid student protests calling for a separate university, the interim government decided in March this year to establish DCU to govern these colleges.

According to the admission circular, students who passed their SSC or equivalent examinations between 2019 and 2022, and HSC or equivalent in 2023 or 2024, are eligible to sit for the admission tests, subject to meeting other requirements.

The application fee is set at Tk 800, payable at any branch of Sonali, Janata, Agrani or Rupali Bank, or through debit or credit card and mobile financial services.

Admission test schedule:

• Arts and Social Science unit test will be held on Aug 22 from 3pm to 4pm.

• Science unit test will take place on Aug 23 from 11am to 12 noon.

• Business Studies unit test is scheduled for Aug 23 from 3pm to 4pm.

Admit cards can be downloaded from Aug 17, and seat plans will be available on Aug 20.

The admission tests will be held across multiple centres in the capital.

Applicants are advised to regularly visit the official admission website (https://collegeadmission.eis.du.ac.bd) for detailed information.
