Daffodil International University (DIU) has held its 13th Convocation, conferring degrees upon 4,020 graduates from undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
The ceremony took place on Wednesday at Daffodil Smart City.
Of the total graduates, 3,391 completed undergraduate degrees, while 629 earned postgraduate degrees.
In recognition of academic excellence, five students received the Chancellor’s Gold Medal, four were awarded the Chairman’s Gold Medal, and three received the Vice-Chancellor’s Gold Medal.
The convocation was presided over by University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Prof SMA Fayez, who attended as the representative of the president of Bangladesh and chancellor of the university, and formally conferred the degrees.
Eminent economist and former caretaker government advisor, BRAC Chairman Hossain Zillur Rahman delivered the convocation address.
In a message sent to the ceremony, Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus said the convocation marked the beginning of a new phase of responsibility, urging graduates to contribute to an inclusive and environmentally sustainable future amid global transformation.
Prof Fayez said higher education must be guided by moral responsibility, adding that conscience and ethical judgement were as important as academic achievement in serving the nation.
Zillur said Bangladesh must now focus on quality, innovation and ethical values to avoid the middle-income trap, stressing the role of young graduates as problem-solvers and creators.
DIU Board of Trustees Chairman Md Sabur Khan said the university aims to produce job creators rather than job seekers, calling graduates its greatest strength.
Vice-Chancellor Prof MR Kabir said the university’s academic framework and Smart City campus had prepared graduates for leadership in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
Valedictorian Swapnil Akter Nu urged fellow graduates to pursue their goals with integrity and resilience.
The Chancellor’s Gold Medal recipients were Swapnil Akter Nu, Jakia Akter, Sourav Gardia, Ariful Rahman and Muntasir Sarkar.
The Chairman’s Gold Medal went to Anjir Rahman Khan, Md Tuhin Islam, Md Abu Bakar Siddique and Md Abu Bakar Siddique.
Vice-Chancellor’s Gold Medals were awarded to Shahriar Shahid, Bayezid Chowdhury and Halima Akter.
The event concluded with cultural performances by university clubs, followed by a concert by Warfaze.
