Daffodil Foundation has organised a scholarship get-together and reunion with scholarship recipients and alumni at Daffodil International School in Chandpur’s Baburhat, highlighting a zakat-based programme that has supported 279 students over the past 16 years.
The day-long event was held on Mar 22, and included Quran recitation, speeches, student competitions, motivational sessions, prize distribution and an open discussion, the foundation said in a statement.
Students, alumni, teachers, guardians, invited guests and journalists attended the programme, which focused on the achievements, experiences and future prospects of the initiative.
Daffodil Group Chairman Dr Md Sabur Khan joined the event as chief guest and delivered the keynote speech.
In his address, he urged young people to build themselves through a growth mindset and career-oriented education, saying such qualities were important for nation-building.
He also said setting clear goals was essential for success and that consistent hard work was the key to achieving them.
Speaking about the scholarship programme, he said the initiative had supported 279 students across 16 batches since its launch in 2010.
At present, 90 students are receiving support under the programme, while 189 have completed it and joined the alumni network. The 17th batch, with around 40 students, is expected to begin soon.
According to Daffodil Foundation, 102 former scholarship recipients are now established in different professions and contributing to the economy.
Among them, 24 are in government jobs, 40 are working in private organisations, six have become entrepreneurs, and eight are either employed or pursuing higher education abroad.
The foundation said it has invested around Tk 18.5 million in the initiative so far, with an additional Tk 716,000 provided as supplementary support.
It described the programme as more than a financial assistance scheme, saying it had developed into a model for human resource development.
Alongside academic support, students receive leadership training, entrepreneurship education and soft skills development aimed at helping them become skilled, self-reliant and capable individuals.
The foundation also said the scholarship programme is managed through a digital automation system that covers online applications, examinations, interviews, data management and alumni verification.
Before the chief guest’s speech, a presentation was shown on the 16-year journey and achievements of the foundation.
Later, Sabur answered questions from students and handed out prizes to winners of different competitions.
Daffodil Foundation said it planned to expand the initiative further in the coming years to reach more talented students across the country.
