BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT) has observed “July Martyrs' Day 2026” with a solemn memorial ceremony dedicated to those killed in the July 2024 movement.
The event, which took place at the BUFT Multipurpose Hall on Thursday, also paid homage to Selim Talukder, a slain July activist, according to a media statement issued by the university.
The programme commenced with a recitation from the Holy Quran, the national anthem, and documentary screenings focusing on the July Revolutionary Alliance (JRA) and slain activist Selim.
BUFT Vice-Chancellor Prof Ayub Nabi Khan delivered the welcome address.
The ceremony was chaired by Faruque Hassan, chairman of the BUFT Board of Trustees, with Sanjida Islam Tulee, MP, attending as the chief guest.
Special Guest addresses were delivered by Md Enayet Hossain, president of ITET Bangladesh and managing director of Knit Empire Ltd, alongside Sumayel Muhammad Mallik, senior vice president of ITET Bangladesh and head of operations at Anlima Yarn Dyeing Ltd.
The statement added that the programme featured remarks from Md Sultan Talukder, father of Selim, and an address by BUFT alumnus Mahmud Fantasir.
