Paltan Police have arrested Dhaka University sociology professor AKM Jamal Uddin over charges filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

He was detained on Wednesday morning at Gulistan Zero Point while taking part in a programme titled “Bangabandhu Peace March-2026”.

Paltan Police Inspector (Investigation) Moniruzzaman Sheikh said, “He has been arrested in a case under the Anti-Terrorism Act filed by police.”

Jamal Uddin, known for his alignment with the pro-Awami League “blue” panel at Dhaka University, previously drew attention after he was harassed on campus in December.

Following the general election, he was harassed again on Feb 15 while attempting to hold a “mass mourning” programme at Bangabandhu’s residence in Dhanmondi 32.

Paltan Police chief Mostafa Kamal Khan said, “After his arrest in the morning, he was sent to court. Police will seek the court’s permission to bring him into custody for questioning.”
