Prof Eaysmin Ara Lekha, vice chancellor of Uttara University, has received the Commonwealth Business Excellence Award 2026 in recognition of her leadership and contributions to higher education.
Prof Lekha received the award in the Women in Leadership in Education category at an award ceremony held in London, United Kingdom, on Aug 27, according to a press release from Uttara University.
The university authorities described the recognition as an important milestone in Uttara University’s journey toward establishing itself as a globally connected institution of higher education, research, innovation, and leadership.
The Commonwealth Business Excellence Awards recognise individuals and organisations demonstrating outstanding leadership, institutional development, professional excellence, and meaningful contributions to the advancement of the Commonwealth community globally.
“The recognition of Prof Dr Lekha also highlights the growing contribution of women leaders to the development of higher education. Her achievement is expected to serve as an inspiration to women academics, educators, researchers, and aspiring leaders in Bangladesh and beyond,” Uttara University said.
Expressing her gratitude for the recognition, Prof Lekha said at the ceremony: “I would like to dedicate this award to my students and my dear colleagues of Uttara University.”
“During her tenure as vice-chancellor, Uttara University has continued to focus on strengthening academic quality, research, innovation, student development, and engagement with the national and international academic community,” the university said.
The university community congratulated Prof Lekha on the achievement. It also expressed its “commitment to continuing efforts to promote quality education, research, innovation, and an inclusive academic environment”.
