Kishoreganj University students have staged a second day of protests, locking the vice-chancellor’s office, registrar’s office and several departmental rooms at the temporary campus inside Gurudayal Government College.

On Monday, they declared a “complete shutdown” until their demands were fulfilled.

The students called for construction of a “permanent campus, an end to administrative paralysis, and guarantees of security”.

They said they were being deprived of basic facilities expected at a public university, citing a lack of laboratories, limited classrooms, and disruptions during examinations since classes share the same building with Gurudayal College.

They accused the university administration of being too weak to ensure security or take effective measures on any student-related issues.

Vice-Chancellor Dilip Kumar Barua said the students’ movement was justified.

“They are agitating for their designated campus. Their demands are logical, and we support them,” he added.

Kishoreganj University began academic activities on Mar 3, 2023, in a multi-storey building of Gurudayal College. But complications over land acquisition have stalled construction of its own campus.
