Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) has ranked as the top private university in Bangladesh in the Research.com Best Universities in Bangladesh 2025/2026 Ranking.
The university was placed third among all Bangladeshi institutions listed, with a global ranking of 2,137.
In a media statement, the university said IUB was listed with two scholars, 332 publications and a combined H-index of 118.
The Bangladesh ranking placed Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University first and Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) second, followed by IUB in third position.
Research.com is an online research portal that provides rankings and analysis of scientists and universities across major academic disciplines.
Its rankings are based on bibliometric indicators, including publication and citation data collected from academic databases such as OpenAlex and CrossRef.
OpenAlex is an open database of scholarly works, authors, institutions, journals and research topics, while CrossRef is a global registration agency for research outputs and their Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs), which help identify and link scholarly publications.
The statement said Research.com's institutional profile for IUB also lists the university in Microbiology, where it is ranked first in Bangladesh and 527th globally.
The profile lists one scientist in the discipline, Prof Dr Shah M Faruque of IUB's Department of Life Sciences, with 153 publications and a total D-index of 66.
The private university recently clinched the number one spot in Bangladesh under the Nature Index institutional rankings, coming first nationally in the Physical Sciences category.
With the Research.com ranking placing IUB first in Bangladesh in Microbiology, the university said it is now recognised as Bangladesh's top university in two major scientific research disciplines by two international research ranking platforms.
IUB Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr M Tamim said the results showed that the university's research strength was becoming visible across more than one scientific field.
"Our focus will remain on supporting serious research, building stronger academic groups and encouraging work that meets international standards," he said.
Research.com said each institution's position was determined based on the sum of D-indexes, or Discipline H-indexes, of affiliated scholars who met the qualifying threshold.
The D-index measures a researcher's publication and citation impact within a specific discipline, while the H-index measures both the productivity and citation impact of a researcher's published work.
According to the statement, bibliometric data for the ranking was collected on Nov 27, 2024.
The ranking examined 279,971 scientist profiles across major scientific disciplines and considered scholars with a qualifying D-index threshold of 20 or higher, it said.
