Female teacher stabbed to death by employee at Islamic University in Kushtia

The suspect attempts to take his own life after the incident and has been admitted to hospital

A female teacher has been stabbed to death in her office at Islamic University in Kushtia, allegedly by an employee of the same department.

University Proctor Shahinuzzaman told journalists that Asma Sadiya Runa, an assistant professor and chair of the social welfare department, was killed in the attack.

He said the department employee, Fazlur Rahman, attempted to take his own life after the incident and has been admitted to hospital.

The president of the Islamic University Journalists’ Association, Niamatullah Munim, who was present at the scene, also confirmed the teacher’s death.

“Madam has died. We brought her to hospital, where doctors declared her dead. The person who carried out the attack, Fazlur Rahman, also attempted self-harm. His condition is critical,” he said.

Kushtia Superintendent of Police Jasim Uddin said details of how the incident occurred would be disclosed later.
