The East West University (EWU) Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) has hosted a seminar titled "AI and Cybersecurity in Industry: Why Advanced Skills Matter".
The seminar was conducted on Thursday at the campus’s Manzur Elahi Auditorium.
The inaugural session was attended by Prof Dr Mohammed Farashuddin, chairperson of the Board of Trustees at EWU; Prof Dr Shams Rahman, vice chancellor; Prof Dr Ahmed Wasif Reza, dean of the Faculty of Sciences and Engineering; and Dr Maheen Islam, chairperson of the Department of CSE at EWU.
The seminar featured a panel of industry leaders, including Dr Zunaid Kazi, founder & CEO of Knowtomation; Mohammad Oli Ahad, director & COO of ACI AI Business; Md Showkat Ali, head of information security at Grameenphone Ltd.; and Mohammad Shahadat Hossain, a cybersecurity professional at Grameenphone Ltd.
The speakers emphasised the critical importance of advanced technical skills in addressing modern digital threats and leveraging the transformative potential of AI.
They advised students to focus on building a strong foundational knowledge rather than simply learning specific tools.
The panelists suggested Master’s courses in “Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning” and “Cybersecurity” to equip the next generation of professionals with “market-ready expertise”.
A participatory Q&A session was also held during the seminar, facilitated by Dr Mohammad Rezwanul Huq, associate professor in the Department of CSE.
