East West University has organised a certificate awarding ceremony for its teacher training programme.

The event was held on Monday at the university’s Aftabnagar campus in Dhaka.

Bangladesh Bank Governor Ahsan H Mansur attended the event as chief guest, while the Chair of the university’s board of trustees and former Bangladesh Bank governor, Mohammed Farashuddin, presided over the ceremony, according to a media statement from the university.

“Teachers shape their students into skilled, capable and effective citizens. Through knowledge and wisdom, they also contribute to the nation’s needs. To build a prosperous nation, we need skilled teachers,” the governor said in his speech.

Farashuddin said the current governor has been competently leading the country’s central bank.

He expressed hope that the governor would take steps to secure a separate pay scale for Bangladesh Bank employees and move towards recognising the governor’s role as a constitutional position.

Ahsan handed over the completion certificate to the 34 teachers who took part in the training programme.
