Syed Ferhat Anwar has been appointed as the new vice-chancellor of BRAC University.

The appointment took effect on Wednesday, the university's Office of Communication said in a press release.

The former director of the Institute of Business Administration, or IBA, at Dhaka University says that he is deeply honoured to assume the post.

He said, "I look forward to working with our dedicated faculty, staff, and students to build on the university’s strong foundation and foster a vibrant learning environment that encourages innovation, critical thinking, and social responsibility."

Tamara Hasan Abed, chairperson of the university’s Board of Trustees, said: "We are delighted to welcome Syed Ferhat Anwar as the new vice-chancellor. With his extensive experience and visionary leadership, I am confident that he will guide our university towards new heights of academic excellence and innovation.

“Anwar's appointment is poised to further strengthen BRAC University's commitment to academic excellence and community engagement, underlining its role as a leader in higher education in Bangladesh.”

Syed Ferhat’s career spans over 38 years in education, research, and management consultancy. Along with Dhaka University’s IBA, he previously served as the president of the Asia Marketing Federation, the press release read.

He holds a master's degree in biochemistry from the University of Dhaka, an MBA from IBA, and a PhD in marketing systems from the University of New Brunswick, Canada and University of Dhaka.

He has over 70 publications in national and international journals and has authored three books on business management. He is also the founding director of the Kotler Center for Marketing Excellence and a chief advisor to the Bangladesh Brand Forum.
