The ballot counting for the hall student councils at Jahangirnagar University has been completed, and the tally for the central student council (JUCSU) is set to begin.
Around 6:45pm on Friday, about 21 hours after counting began, polling officer Uzzwal Kumar Mondal told bdnews24.com that the votes for 20 halls had been counted, including the last one from Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Hall.
He added that polling agents from the halls had been called and the central student council vote counting was expected to start shortly.
The Election Commission had earlier announced that the JUCSU vote counting would begin once the hall council counts were finished.
Out of 12,000 students eligible to vote, around 68 percent cast their ballots throughout Thursday. In some halls, long queues extended voting hours until around 7:30pm.
After voting, ballot boxes were brought from the halls to the Senate Building, where vote counting began after 10pm with the election officials overseeing the process.
Meanwhile, students continue to wait for the results, with several candidates and student organisations demanding a swift announcement.
