A detailed election schedule for the Dhaka University Central Students' Union, or DUCSU, will be announced once the committees formed on the matter deliver their final recommendations, the Dhaka University administration said
There is no scope to announce such a schedule before the preparations are taken, the university said in a statement on Wednesday.
"The three separate committees formed to provide suggestions in conducting the DUCSU and Hall Union elections successfully, drafting/revising the election code of conduct, and revising/ overhauling of DUCSU and Hall Union constitutions have been working tirelessly. As per the directives from Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Dr Niaz Ahmad Khan, the committees sought the opinions from active student organisations, general students, journalists and other stakeholders. The committees have already held multiple meetings and accepted written opinions from the stakeholders,” the statement said.
To provide suggestions on conducting the DUCSU election, a six-member committee was formed, led by Pro-Vice Chancellor Saima Haque Bidisha. This committee exchanged opinions and held discussions with all active student organisations and other stakeholders.
“Soon, it will seek opinions from general students through Google Forms,” the statement from the administration said. “It will exchange opinions with the hall provosts by this week. It also took the initiative to complete the discussion with other stakeholders.”
Regarding the committee formed to draft and revise the election code of conduct, the statement said: “A seven-member committee was formed with Vice-Chancellor Dr Mamun Ahmed as convener. This committee held discussions with the active student organisations on the campus, former DUCSU leaders, and political figures. general students, Dhaka University Journalist Association members from 2019 to 2025, hall provosts, house tutors, and teachers and officers related to the previous DUCSU elections. The report prepared after reviewing the stakeholders’ opinions is in its final stage.”
The statement also gave an update on the committee to revise and overhaul the DUCSU and Hall Union constitutions led by Law Faculty Dean Dr Mohammad Iqramul Haque.
“This committee called for proposals from different student organisations and all students to revise the constitutions. Many well considered proposals have arrived. A primary draft has been prepared after scrutinising the proposals. After the draft is finalised, opinions from other stakeholders will be taken. Once the proposals are finalised, the final recommendations to revise the constitutions will be submitted.”
