Eastern University has marked the Bangla New Year with a daylong celebration organised by its Cultural Club.
The event brought together teachers, students, officials, staff, and alumni in a festive atmosphere on Monday, read a media statement.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Farid A Sobhani attended the event as the chief guest, extending new year greetings to all.
He said Pahela Baishakh is a moment to reconnect with cultural roots, adding that universities should nurture both knowledge and cultural values.
Treasurer Prof Md Shamsul Huda said the occasion reflects the richness of Bengali culture, noting that students’ participation showed growing cultural awareness.
Registrar Abul Bashar Khan greeted students on the Bengali New Year and urged them to carry their heritage forward as future nation-builders.
The event featured a Baishakhi fair, cultural performances, flash mob, bioscope, ferris wheel, and stalls of food and handicrafts.
Students in traditional attire added to the festive mood, the statement added.
The event was hosted by Assistant Prof Abdullah Al-Fahad of the Department of Business Administration, while overall coordination was led by Deputy Director of Student Affairs and Placement KM Monirul Islam.
