The American International University Bangladesh (AIUB) has strengthened its international academic network by signing partnership agreements with 14 universities during the Global Sustainable Development Congress 2026 in Indonesia.

In a media statement, AIUB said it was the only Bangladeshi university to exhibit at the four-day congress, organised by Times Higher Education from Jun 22 to 25 at the Indonesia Convention Center.

According to the statement, the event brought together universities, policymakers, researchers and industry leaders to discuss the role of higher education in advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The AIUB delegation was led by founder trustee Ishtiaque Abedin, trustee Shania Abedin, Dip Nandi, dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology, and Carlin Noelle Lamagna, deputy director of the Office of Planning and Development.

On the sidelines of the congress, AIUB signed memoranda of understanding with 14 universities in Indonesia and the Philippines to promote student and faculty exchanges, joint research, curriculum development and other academic collaborations.

The university also held discussions with City University of Macau on launching a student exchange programme from January 2027 and explored future collaboration opportunities with Nanyang Technological University and Hanyang University.

Members of the delegation also participated in academic sessions on sustainability assessment, higher education rankings and lifelong learning during the congress, AIUB said.
