Police have recovered the body of a student of the Faculty of Fine Arts at Dhaka University from a rented house in Hatirpool's Free School Street.

The deceased, 24-year-old Pinak Ranjan Sarkar, was a postgraduate student of the Department of Drawing and Painting. Pinak and some others used to share accommodation at a rented house in Hatirpool, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Kalabagan Police Station.

Police recovered his body hanging from a ceiling fan in the early hours on Tuesday.

Sub Inspector Iqbal Hossain Bhuiyan said that when informed, police broke into the ninth floor of House No. 387/5 on Free School Street and recovered Pinak’s body, which was hanging from the ceiling fan with a towel tied around his neck.

Police Constable Jahid took the body to the morgue in Dhaka Medical College Hospital around 12:45am.

Following the initial investigation, police believe that it may be an instance of suicide.

Pinak hailed from Mymensingh, and his father is Ranjan Sarkar.
