BB governor says businesses will not be closed because of individual’s action

Ahsan H Mansur makes the remark when responding to concerns over money launderers staying untouched

Bangladesh Bank Governor Ahsan H Mansur has said no business institution will be shut down because of the actions of an individual.

He made the remarks in response to concerns raised at an investment dialogue on Thursday that money launderers remained untouched. The dialogue was organised by the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority.

“We have kept every institution running, except for Beximco Textiles. SS Power is also operating, because it is a ‘national asset’. S Alam may not be in the country: whether he may be allowed to stay or not is a decision for the next government to make,” said the BB chief.

The interim government will not close any business institution for an individual’s actions, he said.

S Alam and Summit have been allowed to open LCs so that they can keep their operations running, he said.
