Md Nurul Azim has joined Shimanto Bank as its managing director and chief executive officer.

He assumed office on Tuesday, the bank said in a media statement.

Azim previously served as managing director of Islamic Finance and Investment.

He brings nearly 25 years of experience in the banking sector, having held a range of senior roles at several financial institutions, it added.

He began his career as a management trainee officer at Premier Bank and later worked at Southeast Bank, National Bank, and SBAC Bank, according to the statement.

Before joining Islamic Finance and Investment, he served as additional managing director at SBAC Bank.

During his tenure at SBAC Bank, Azim held key leadership roles including chief risk officer and chief business officer, and at times also served as acting managing director and CEO.

He holds a Master’s degree from Rabindra Bharati University in West Bengal, India.

In the statement, Shimanto Bank said it expects the new leadership to strengthen corporate governance, improve customer services and support the bank in achieving its business goals.
