In the aftermath of the fire at the Cargo Village of Shahjalal International Airport, the Dhaka Custom House has arranged for temporary cargo clearance through the ground support equipment maintenance area.

A connection to the ASYCUDA World automation system has been installed at Gate No. 9 for physical inspection and customs clearance of goods.

In a media statement on Sunday, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) said Dhaka customs has started using the GSE maintenance area for cargo processing.

“Customs officials are conducting physical examinations of goods here. The ASYCUDA World connection has also been set up at Gate No. 9,” the NBR statement said.

The fire at the airport’s Cargo Village was brought fully under control 27 hours after it started, Fire Service Director (operations and maintenance) Lt Col Mohammad Tajul Islam Chowdhury said on Sunday.

The blaze broke out on Saturday noon in the import cargo area and was contained by 9pm through a combined effort of 37 Fire Service units, police, Ansar, RAB, APBn, Air Force, and Navy.

Separate probe committees have been formed by the Internal Resources Division of the finance ministry and the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism to look into the incident, amid fears of heavy losses to imported goods.
