Chittogong Port has achieved a record in container handling during the outgoing fiscal year 2025–26.
The port handled its highest-ever volume of 3,531,113 TEUs (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units) of containers. At the same time, cargo handling and the number of vessels calling at the port also increased.
The information has been shared with bdnews24.com by Commodore Ahmed Amin Abdullah, member (harbour and marine) of the Chittagong Port Authority Board.
In the 2024–25 fiscal year, the port handled 3.2 million TEUs (with each 20-foot container counted as one TEU). Compared with the previous fiscal year, container handling grew by 7.13 percent in FY 2025–26.
Cargo handling also increased by 5.62 percent during FY 2025–26. During the same period, the port handled 4,336 vessels, which was 259 more vessels than in the previous fiscal year.
The average turnaround time for vessels at Chittagong Port also declined during FY 2025–26. In addition, both the port's revenue and operating surplus increased compared with the 2024–25 fiscal year.
