bKash Limited, the largest mobile financial service provider in the country, launched a bill payment service for Palli Bidyut consumers on Monday with technical assistance from Teletalk, the state-owned mobile phone operator.

The customers can also check the bill amount from their bKash account.

Posts, Telecommunications and IT Minister Mustafa Jabbar inaugurated the service at a ceremony held at a Dhaka hotel.

Telecommunications Secretary Shyam Sunder Sikder, Teletalk Managing Director Md Shahab Uddin, bKash Chief Commercial Officer Mizanur Rashid and Chief External and Corporate Affairs Officer Sheikh Md Monirul Islam were also present.

The REB is the largest power distribution company in the country by customers and majority of its customers live in villages and remote areas amid limited presence of bank branches and Palli Bidyut Samity office.

The bKash bill payment solutions is expected to bring relief to the customers from the hassle of standing in queues at a bank branch or a Palli Bidyut Samity office, usually located far away from the customers’ home.

The REB has more than 20 million consumers as of May, according to its website.
