The bank’s headquarters in a statement said Managing Director Mohammad Ataur Rahman Prodhan visited the branch on Wednesday immediately after he noticed a video posted in Facebook by a customer had gone viral.

He suspended the manager, Md Aminul Islam, and formed a committee for further investigations.

The incident took place on Tuesday when a customer and a cashier had an argument following a “misunderstanding” over depositing money.

The cashier said he deposited Tk 10,000 less than the amount written on the cheque.

At one stage, the manager asked the depositor to wait until the end of the banking hours to resolve the issue.

But the depositor filmed the incident on his mobile phone and posted the video on Facebook that went viral, according to the bank’s statement.

The bank, which has recently undergone a series of reforms, said the interest of the customers always comes first to them.

Established in 1972, Rupali Bank made a profit of Tk 5.37 billion last year, bouncing back from a loss of Tk 1 billion in the previous year after a change in the management.
