The cricketer was present when SEC Chairman Khairul Hossain announced the appointment at the opening of a programme marking World Investor Week 2017 at Shilpakala Academy in Dhaka on Monday.

"From now on, Shakib Al Hasan will work with the SEC as a goodwill ambassador for countrywide investment educational activities to encourage the share market investors," Khairul said.

Shakib told the investors at the programme that there was no alternative to studying the market for making 'wise' investments.

He said he saw foreign cricketers monitoring the trends and going through the financial analysis to invest in the capital market.

Finance Minister AMA Muhith and Financial Institutions Secretary Eunusur Rahman, among others, were present.

World Investor Week is a global campaign promoted by International Organization of Securities Commissions or IOSCO to raise awareness about the importance of investor education and protection.
