Four women were honoured for their contributions to social welfare, journalism, entrepreneurship and sports at the "Radhuni Kirtimoti Sommanona 2025" ceremony held at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in Dhaka on Friday to mark International Women’s Day.

The awards, now in their 20th year, are organised by Radhuni, a brand of Square Food & Beverage Limited, to recognise women whose work has made an impact in different sectors, the company said in a statement.

The recipients were selected through nationwide nominations and a screening process by a panel that included Ekhon TV Editorial Head Tushar Abdullah, Gootipa founder Taslima Miji, senior journalist Mustafa Mamun, and DCastalia Limited director Sabila Enun.

Addressing the event, Square Food & Beverage Limited CEO Md Parvez Saiful Islam highlighted the theme of this year’s programme, “Give to Gain.”

“Respect, recognition and support for women are not merely acknowledgements of their achievements—they are investments in society,” he said.

“When a woman advances, her family, workplace and the nation progress with her.”

The ceremony was attended by several special guests, including Rubaba Dowla, chairperson of the BCB Women’s Wing and country managing director of Oracle Bangladesh; Mohammadi Group Chairperson Dr Rubana Huq; Ekushey Padak-winning artist Kanak Chanpa Chakma; and Daily Bonik Barta founder editor and CEO Dewan Hanif Mahmud.

Others present included Square Food & Beverage Limited Managing Director Anjan Chowdhury, Adcomm Limited chairperson Geetiara Safia Chowdhury, and Square Food & Beverage Limited Head of Marketing Imtiaz Firoze, along with guests from various sectors.

The programme began with an audio-visual presentation highlighting two decades of the initiative and Radhuni’s work in supporting women’s empowerment.

A sand art performance by artist Jibon Roy was also presented during the ceremony, symbolising resilience and the journey of overcoming challenges.

Among this year’s awardees, Kawser Soheli received the Kirtimoti Journalist Award for investigative reporting on social and governance issues.

Nur Nahar was honoured with the Kirtimoti Social Welfare Award for founding Bonchita, an organisation advocating for the rights of sex workers and marginalised women.

The Kirtimoti Entrepreneur Award went to Suraya Farhana Resma for agricultural and farming initiatives that have created livelihood opportunities for women.

Footballer Ritu Porna Chakma, a two-time SAFF Women’s Championship winner and former Best Player award recipient, received the Kirtimoti Sportsperson Award.

The winners were presented with crests and cheques by the guests at the ceremony.

The event was produced by Mediacom Limited, and highlights will be broadcast on Maasranga Television at 9pm on Saturday.
