As part of its socio-economic development initiatives, the government now plans to bring 4.2 million farmers under the Farmer Card scheme.
In his budget speech, Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury said: “To bring about a fundamental transformation in the agricultural sector and deliver 10 essential services to the doorsteps of marginalised communities, the government officially launched the Farmer Card programme on the first day of the Bengali New Year (Pahela Boishakh) this year.
“In the fiscal year 2026-27, Farmer Cards will be issued to 4.25 million farmers in 100 Upazilas, and we plan to gradually bring all farmers across the country under the scheme.”
Through this card, landless and marginal farmers will receive cash assistance of Tk 2,500 once every year, he added.
“For the fiscal year 2026–27, I propose an initial allocation of Tk 10.62 billion for the Farmer Card programme,” Khosru said.
