The parliamentary Opposition has vowed to play a “strong and constructive” role during the national budget session.

The 13th Parliament began its second sitting on Sunday.

Before the sitting, opposition MPs hold a meeting at the Parliament complex where they discuss their position and strategy for the budget session, according to Jamaat-e-Islami’s central publicity department.

The BNP government is set to place the budget for the next fiscal year on Thursday.

Jamaat said the meeting focused on the Opposition's position and strategy for the budget session.

Speaking on the party’s stance, Leader of the Opposition Shafiqur Rahman said: “As representatives of the people, in the budget session starting [on Sunday], the Opposition will play a strong and constructive role in protecting the economic rights of ordinary citizens and building a welfare-oriented state.”

The meeting, presided over by Jamaat chief Shafiqur, was attended by deputy leader Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher, Chief Whip and National Citizen Party (NCP) Convenor Nahid Islam, along with other MPs.
