The interim government has exempted advance tax on the import of eye lenses, along with stents or rings used in the treatment of heart disease.

If a female entrepreneur opens a beauty parlour, the rent of the parlour or its premises is also exempt from value-added tax (VAT).

A media statement released by the finance ministry informed that the Advisory Council approved the budget for the fiscal year 2025-26 at a meeting chaired by Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus.

On Jun 2, Finance Advisor Salehuddin Ahmed proposed a budget of Tk 7.90 trillion for the 2025-26 fiscal year.

Since parliament was not in session, his budget speech was broadcast on national television.

The statement mentioned VAT exemption has been granted for the import of ballpoint pens.

In terms of industrial tax breaks, VAT exemption has been granted at the production stage for cotton produced through recycling in order to prevent fraud.

The import duty on solar inverters has been reduced from 10 per cent to 1 per cent to facilitate the availability of equipment used in solar power generation.

In the proposed budget, ten additional items have been added to the list of hospital medical equipment and supplies eligible for import at concessional rates.

According to the notification, this move will help make medical services more accessible to the public.

The import duty on technically specified natural rubber, which is a key raw material for tyre manufacturing, has been reduced from 10 percent to 5 percent.
